A trip to Rangeley, Maine, on a warm day last week was intended to give us a chance to enjoy the fall foliage, but instead introduced us to one of the strangest people we’ve ever come across — and that’s saying a lot, considering the number of characters and kooks there are out there.
Not that we actually met the man.
Instead, we kept noticing signs for the Wilhelm Reich Museum — signs that obviously had been there on previous trips to the Rangeley Lakes. On that particular trip, with the foliage already having peaked, the drive was not particularly exciting, so we were more open to other sights. We were on the return trip from Rangeley with plans to head south to Evans Notch in hopes of finding an area where the foliage was still spectacular when we noticed that references to the museum also mentioned hiking trails. So it was that we decided to make a side trip down Dodge Pond Road to check it out.
