The crash occurred just before 12:30 a.m.
Justice For J6 Rally Has Law Enforcement Worried
Capitol Police and other law enforcement units are preparing for the Sept. 18 “Justice for J6” rally that is planned to support the more than 570 people charged with crimes related to the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection. Look Ahead America, a group led by former Trump campaign staffer Matt Braynard, expects to bring between 300 and 500 people, including members of far-right extremist groups such as the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, according to multiple reports.
The Capitol Police will present their security plan to the Capitol Police Board this week, and the Metropolitan Police Department is expected to increase its presence for the planned rally near the Capitol.
Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe has said that law enforcement needs to take the event “very seriously” as concerns mount about more potential violence on Capitol Hill.
Corporate America Lines Up Against Tax Plan
Companies that have been avoiding taxes for the past decade are lining up against President Joe Biden’s infrastructure plan that would be paid for by raising the corporate tax rate and cracking down on tax havens.
To pay for Biden’s American Jobs Plan, Democrats are considering raising the corporate tax rate to 28 percent, and a capital gains tax for millionaires of 39.6 percent, up from 23.8 percent. Also being discussed is an increase in the marginal income tax rate for the top 1 percent, from 37 percent to 39.6 percent.
Companies opposed to the plan include Walmart, Oracle, Accenture, Bristol Myers Squibb, Shell, and Walgreens, according to an analysis by Accountable.US, a nonpartisan watchdog group focused on public corruption. Executives at companies that have historically avoided paying taxes, like Johnson & Johnson, JPMorgan Chase, FedEx, and DuPont, have spoken out publicly against Biden’s proposed tax increases.
