I am still trying to understand Margarita Simonyan, the Russian exchange student I interviewed at Newfound Regional High School more than two decades ago, who went on to become editor-in-chief of Russia Today or RT which has served as a mouthpiece for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Some of her comments appear to be right out of Putin’s mouth, as when she accuses Ukraine of genocide against its Russian citizens. Yet she then shows such compassion when discussing her American “mom”, the late Dot O’Hara.
