Governor Signs Bill Clarifying Ultrasound Requirement
Monkeypox Outbreak Linked To Sexual Activity
Skiers on Mount Washington helped a woman identified only as “an experienced backcountry skier” to the rim of the Great Gulf on Saturday after she fell several hundred feet onto rocks. They flagged down a Cog Railway train to take her down the mountain amidst record-breaking temperatures on the mountain.
The temperature on Mount Washington’s summit reached 62 degrees, which was a new record high for the day. Nevertheless sections of the mountain still had enough snow for skiing.
Authorities said the woman had to be transported at least 700 feet to the rim before she could be taken to the train.
Governor Signs Bill Clarifying Ultrasound Requirement
Gov. Chris Sununu signed an amended House Bill 1673 that clarifies the ultrasound provision in the fetal life protection act so the procedure is necessary only if the gestational age of the infant is believed to be 24-weeks or beyond. As originally passed, the act required an ultrasound at every stage of pregnancy to determine fetal age.
Sununu objected to several provisions within the act and said also supports HB 1609 which would remove limits on abortions of unviable fetuses after 24 weeks. The bill is still making its way through the legislative process.
Medical providers have testified that ultrasounds are not always medically necessary.
Monkeypox Outbreak Linked To Sexual Activity
Dr. David Heymann, who formerly served as a lead adviser to the World Health Organization, said the outbreak of monkeypox now spreading through developed countries appears to be “a random event” caused by sexual activity at two recent raves taking place in Spain and Belgium.
Monkeypox previously has been confined mostly to outbreaks within central and western Africa, where it is endemic in animals. People are mainly infected by animals like wild rodents and primates and outbreaks have not spilled across borders.
The Centers for Disease Control is monitoring a case of the disease in Massachusetts. There the man infected is believed to have contracted monkeypox while in Canada.
