A Bristol man was killed and his passenger received minor injuries when his car veered off Eastern District Road in Danbury, then went across to the other side, striking a guardrail and into some trees.
The Monday afternoon crash killed Kevin Ramsey, 43, who was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. His passenger, Sarah Westland, 36, also of Bristol, was taken to Franklin Regional Hospital for evaluation.
Police shut down a portion of Eastern District Road while they investigated the crash, which occurred around 3 p.m.
Bill Would Allow Town Meeting Postponements
With the coronavirus pandemic extending into 2021 even as a series of vaccines are becoming available, the New Hampshire Senate is considering a bill that would allow towns and cities to postpone their annual meetings to the second Tuesday in April, May, June, or July.
Sponsored by Republican Senator James Gray of Rochester and co-sponsored by Senate President Chuck Morse of Salem, Senate Majority Leader Jeb Bradley of Wolfeboro, and acting House Speaker Sherman Packard of Londonderry, Senate Bill 2 has bipartisan support.
The bill also would allow moderators and election officials to partially process absentee ballots ahead of Election Day to look for irregularities on the voter affidavits and signatures, in order to speed up the counting at the polls. See story in the Union Leader.
Australian Fugitive Vies For Darwin Award
A naked fugitive who spent four days living off snails while clinging to a mangrove tree in a crocodile-infested swamp in northern Australia is back under arrest while being treated for exposure at Royal Darwin Hospital.
On the lam after breaching bail on an armed robbery charge, the unnamed fugitive was found by two fishermen laying crab traps near the city of Darwin on Sunday. They said the 40-year-old man begged them for water and they took him aboard their boat as they brought him back to authorities.
"He had scratches all over him, he was completely covered in mosquito bites, mud all over his face and his chest. He was suffering pretty bad," one of the fishermen reported.
