Time To Assess The Flood Damage
North Korea, which has been threatening retaliation against alleged U.S. spy plane incursions over its territory, saying it would shoot down such planes, has fired a “suspected” intercontinental ballistic missile that flew for more than an hour before landing short of Japanese waters this morning.
North Korea conducted a record number of missile launches in 2022, including ones capable of reaching U.S. territory, which has ramped up security concerns on the peninsula. The United States and South Korea have increased their joint military drills in response.
Washington dismissed the accusations about a spy plane, saying its military patrols are in line with international law.
The Mayor Who Would Be Governor
Manchester Mayor Joyce Craig has announced her candidacy for New Hampshire governor, promising to defend reproductive freedom and use her executive experience to create jobs, increase the amount of affordable housing, strengthen public education, promote public safety, and support communities across the Granite State.
Currently serving in her third term in office, Craig had announced her exploratory campaign for governor last May, citing the support of 70 New Hampshire leaders. She has since received the endorsement of the New Hampshire Building and Construction Trades Council, and her campaign raised $361,000 in just over a month.
“I’m running for governor to ensure that everyone in New Hampshire has the opportunity to succeed by strengthening our public schools, creating good-paying jobs, building more affordable housing, and protecting access to abortion,” she said. “As I’ve had discussions with Granite Staters across New Hampshire, it’s clear that the same challenges we’re facing in Manchester are faced by communities across the state. Granite Staters deserve a governor that will partner with cities and towns to tackle our shared challenges and deliver for families.”
Woman Stranded On OHRV Trail
New Hampshire Fish and Game conservation officers located a missing Hopkinson woman whose car was stuck in rough terrain, with the trail under high water in many places due to recent heavy rains. Using all-terrain vehicles, they got Valerie Reinhart, 39, back to Bound Tree Road where Warner Police assisted in getting her back to her residence.
Reinhart had notified her family on July 9 that she had gotten her sedan stuck on one of the OHRV trails in Hopkinton. Hopkinson police notified Fish and Game just before noon on July 10 that Reinhart was no longer answering her phone, and no contact had been made with her for about 12 hours. Conservation officers began searching near the town line between Hopkinton and Warner, with rescuers checking the backroads and OHRV Trails. They found her around 2:30 p.m.
Above All Tow Company assisted in the removal of Reinhart’s vehicle from the trail system.
Time To Assess The Flood Damage
Vermont officials are assessing flood damage throughout the state, including the town of Ludlow, where the scale of the damage is only starting to become clear as the floodwater recedes.
Several days of rainfall have caused “historic and catastrophic” flooding, including in the state’s capital city, Montpelier. Some 100 rescue operations have taken place since Sunday.
People in Montpelier and Berlin have been told to boil their water amid concerns that the flooding may have contaminated drinking water.
