Bristol Police K9 Officer Nicholas Kelley and Arro assisted the U.S. Marshall’s Office and the Alexandria Police Department in apprehending Tia Jean Reed, 26, a fugitive who had violated her parole after being convicted on the sale of fentanyl.
The N.H. Joint Fugitive Task Force had received several tips pointing to a residence on Cass Mill Road in Alexandria, but when law enforcement officers checked the residence on April 7, they did not find Reed. They did locate another individual with multiple warrants, Joseph Bowie, 39, arresting him on warrants from Belknap County for failing to appear on a narcotics charge and failing to appear on a theft charge; and in Grafton County for failing to appear on a charge of operating a motor vehicle after being deemed a habitual offender.
Police later returned to the residence with Arro, who located Reed in a hidden space behind a bookcase in a bedroom. Reed surrendered. In addition to the U.S. Marshals and members from the Alexandria and Bristol police departments, officers from the Strafford and Grafton County Sheriff’s Offices, N.H. Department of Corrections, Danbury, and Andover assisted in the case.
Weapons For Ukraine
The Senate unanimously passed legislation sponsored by New Hampshire’s Jeanne Shaheen to revive a World War II-era program that would allow the U.S. to quickly resupply arms to Ukraine without time-consuming procedural hurdles.
“As the war in Ukraine unfolds, delivering military aid as quickly as possible is pivotal for Ukraine’s ability to defend itself against Putin’s unprovoked attacks,” said Shaheen. “The Kremlin is committing horrific assaults throughout the nation on civilian infrastructure and targeting innocent men, women and children.”
The so-called Lend-Lease bill passed the Senate with bipartisan support, but must also pass the House. The U.S. Congress has already approved $14 billion in military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine but a new Lend-Lease law could see an even greater flow of military aid to the country.
Kremlin’s Concerns About NATO
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday that, if Finland and Sweden were to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Russia would have to “rebalance the situation.” “We’ll have to make our western flank more sophisticated in terms of ensuring our security,” Peskov told Britain’s Sky News.
Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine has prompted the two Nordic countries to consider joining the U.S.-led alliance.
Peskov said Russia would not see such a move as an existential threat, of the kind that might prompt it to consider using nuclear weapons.
