With the approach of Halloween, a visit to Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts, may be in order. There lies the Edward Gorey House, a sea captain’s home which the American author, illustrator, and “oddball genius” bought in 1979 and is now a museum that welcomes visitors from April to December each year.
Those who do not know who the late Edward Gorey was are likely to recognize some of his drawings, which have appeared in animated form during the opening credits of PBS’ Mystery series. His illustrated version of T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats served as the source for the musical “Cats”.
