Bedford Victims Identified After Autopsy
Theodore Luckey Of New Jersey Charged In Murder Of Two Adult Males
Police have charged Theodore Luckey, 42, of Asbury Park, New Jersey, with second-degree murder in the killing of Nathan Cashman, 28, of Manchester, and David Hanford, 60, of Seaside Height, New Jersey, according to New Hampshire Attorney General John M. Formella, New Hampshire State Police Colonel Nathan Noyes, and Bedford Police Chief John J. Bryfonski.
Police found both victims at Country Inn and Suites in Bedford on August 21 — one in the lobby and the other in one of the guest rooms. Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Mitchell Weinberg, who conducted the autopsies, determined Cashman's cause of death to be multiple chop wounds of the head, neck, and body; and Hanford's death was due to ligature strangulation.
Luckey is being held at the Hillsborough County House of Corrections.
National GOP Courts Sununu
Fox News reports that Republicans are courting New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu in hopes of flipping the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Maggie Hassan, seen as an easy way of regaining the majority they lost in the last election. A single gain would break the current tie between Democrats and Republicans, and the GOP sees Hassan as an easy target.
Hassan was serving as New Hampshire’s governor when the Democrats persuaded her to challenge Republican Kelly Ayotte in the U.S. Senate. Hassan won by just 1,000 votes.
Sununu has denied seeking the seat — so far. The son of former three-term governor John H. Sununu, who also served as President George H.W. Bush’s chief of staff, and brother of former Senator John E. Sununu, Chris Sununu eventually will decide whether to run for the Senate, seek reelection to a fourth two-year term as governor, or simply return to the private sector, where he previously worked as an environmental engineer and managed the family’s Waterville Valley ski resort.
Politics Above Consensus
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is holding out to pass the Democrats’ $3.5 trillion “human infrastructure” package before allowing a vote on the bipartisan infrastructure package that has overwhelming popular support. Centrist Democrats are fighting her to avoid passing a plan that many in Congress continue to have problems accepting.
Moderates were incensed by Pelosi’s move to wrap consideration of the ground rules of debate and the budget resolution itself into one vote, rather than taking separate votes to advance the spending bill. They felt the bipartisan bill should be considered on its own merits.
Pelosi is quoted as saying, “We cannot squander this majority and this Democratic White House by not passing what we need to do. Right now, we have an opportunity to pass something so substantial for our country, so transformative we haven’t seen anything like it."
